The first rock fill works for Bakun dam began in 2004. Graded rock materials from the rock blasting operations were used for the main rock fill construction of the dam.

This rock fill operation was continuously carried out to complete the 207 metre high face with 17 million cubic metres in volume and approximate crest length of 748 metres.
