Welcome
to Bakun Hydroelectric Dam Malaysia
With
the
growing demand for clean sustainable energy globally
and Malaysia’s continuous industrial
development Malaysia China Hydro Joint Venture
(MCHJV) was formed to construct the first concrete
faced, rock fill, hydroelectric dam, located
at Bakun, Sarawak, East Malaysia.

The Bakun Hydroelectric
Dam has reached a height of 207 metres making it
the second tallest Concrete Faced Rockfill Dam (CFRD)
in the world.
To build it the
engineers had to first divert the river around the
area where the dam is being built. This was done
by routing the river through tunnels that were driven
through one side of the valley around the construction
area.
In order to divert
the river, a small dam, called the upstream cofferdam
was built upstream from the main construction area.
This acted as a barrier to the river and caused it
to flow through the diversion tunnels.

The
MCHJV-CSR Project, designed as a Eco Center, to host
CSR activities for the local community and display
their handicrafts, to host handicraft workshops and
related activities.
The Eco Center sets the trend for
establishing an Eco-Policy for future related developments,
such as eco heritage trails and walks, eco parks and
activities.
The Eco Center will be developed
in two phases:
Phase 1: Construction of the Main Center.
Phase 2: Refurbishing & refurnishing of the existing
Pasar Tani and landscaping of the Eco Center.
