After
almost a year's training, the participants of Craft
Design & Development Workshop for Bakun Residents
were presented with ‘graduation’ certificates
in a ceremony held at Uma Daro in Sungai Asap in
mid 2007.
The workshop was first introduced
in April, 2006 by MCH to enhance the creativity
and craftsmanship of the local artisans in Bakun
as well as creating new avenues to enhance and
sustain their income. (See

Certificates
presentation ceremony was held at Uma Daro
on March 15 2007.
The certificates were presented by Captain (R)
Baharudin Jalil of MCHJV and
Professor Dr Ruslan Abd Rahim of UiTM. |

More
than 60 participants received their certificates
that were presented by Captain (R) Baharudin Jalil
of MCHJV and Professor Dr Ruslan Abd Rahim of UiTM.
Gracing the event, YBhg Encik
Sirai Daha, Belaga’s newly appointed District
Officer said, “I am grateful for MCH’s
initiative in finding ways to upgrade the livelihood
of the locals surrounding Bakun.
"I am also glad that MCH had
chosen the best facilitators from UiTM to run the
workshop. It simply shows the organisation’s
commitment and sincerity in its pledge to assist
the locals in developing a cottage industry here,
in Bakun.”
Bakun Craft Association made its
inaugural public showcase during the Pesta Sg Asap
also held mid 2007. |

After
almost one year, the Craft Design & Development
Workshops were concluded.
We are very grateful to have En Sirai Daha the
new Belaga District Officer
to grace the workshop’s Closing and Graduation
Ceremony. |

The
recently concluded Craft Design and Development Workshops
organised by MCHJV in collaboration with UiTM has
resulted in the development of the Bakun - Belaga
Craft Association who design and produce unique local
crafts of high quality.
Headed by Mr Michael Mujah Lihan with approximately
60 members from Sg Asap and Belaga, the association
is currently undergoing the registration process
with the Registrar of Society in Sarawak. |

| Through this association,
the development of a sustainable craft industry in
Bakun can be carried out more strategically with continual
future training programmes from Sarawak Craft Council
and Sarawak Economic Development Corporation. |
