Sungai
Assap was the first settlement to be set up for the
new residents who relocated from the Bakun area where
the dam is sited and being constructed. Several hundred
families were resettled here.
Included in the
development plan was the creation
of a town centre complete with schools, utility
services, medical facilities, commercial centre,
integral facilities and other amenities to serve
and sustain the community. |

School facilities were part of the community
development plan when the Sungai Assap
settlement was opened for the families
who moved from the Bakun area. |

Residential
longhouses with modern facilities were constructed
for the families enabling them to better adapt
to a new lifestyle and
economic livelihood in their new environment. |

There
are altogether five major 'settlements' in
Sungai Assap which many have called home.
The longhouse clusters have encouraged a
close sense of community among its
residents. |

A
new medical clinic was incorporated in the
Sungai Assap township for the convenience
of the residents in and around Sungai Asaap
community. |
|
| |
|
|
The
commercial centre for Sungai Assap included
shops, utility outlets, basic services provisions
and other small businesses for sustainable
local enterprise. |
